We have friends in creative places at Sonnie. From fast cars to talking tennis balls, run clubs, records and Kiwi summer scenes, our limited-edition designer collabs are always cart faves.
Meet the local artists behind our custom capsule prints as we take five with artist and designer Guy Brock.
Where did your love for design begin?
Primary school, we had a great art teacher (RIP Mrs Hall) and had the opportunity to do a jungle-themed mural on the sports shed when we were 9-10 years old. That was my first memory of really enjoying making art.
What inspires your creativity?
Books of past and current artists and designers, and stuff that I see online - Pinterest is also great.
When are you most creative?
When by myself at home with no distractions
Tell us about your previous experience in the clothing industry?
My dad was always involved in the clothing industry growing up, he used to get me jobs in the warehouses in the school holidays. I then went on to start a clothing brand with three friends that we owned and operated for 10 years, Moreporks - it’s still around today under new ownership.
What qualities do you consider when designing kids' clothes?
Not getting caught up in trends and focusing on the classics - sweatshirts, rugby Jerseys and cool prints. You put yourself in the kids shoes, so when they look back they’ll never be embarrassed with what their parents dressed them in.

Where do you find inspo for your Sonnie designs?
Classic sportswear brands, sports, art and design, cartoons and graffiti.
There’s a strong sports influence in your designs, what sporting era are you most drawn to?
The ‘90s, this is the era I grew up in.
In your opinion, what should every kid have in their wardrobe?
A hooded sweatshirt and a good selection of caps.
